brick jayne – 2026

April 9, 2026

Hello !!!!

It’s me, Brick Jayne! I’m starting another writing project. For the past few weeks, I’ve been in “pre-production mode”. I’ve been going through old notebooks, buying proper writing supplies, and organizing my physical surroundings. The ducks are in a row right now! It feels good! The last piece of fiction I completed was Blunder which was started in 2019 and finished in 2023. I’m not happy with how long it took to write, and I’m not too happy with how long in between projects it’s been taking me. I’m okay with life, though. I never ever claim to have writer’s block. Writing takes certain things. It takes time, energy, focus, will, and the right tools to get it done. Also, life will give you curve balls and resistance. It’s nice when life’s obstacles aren’t unbearable. I’m not making excuses, though. I’m simply saying that the planets have lined up again. I feel like doing the next project, I have the time to do it, and I expect it to be completed in the next few months.

Things can get complicated. I had a different pseudonym from 2003 until 2009. I wrote as Gaud Rockefeller, and it was one book per year. There was one exception. In 2005, my hard drive crashed on my computer. I had very little saved work in progress. I still remember the plot of what I wanted to write. As of this moment, that will be the next project! Yes, I will complete Chagrin! It will be available to the public before the year’s up if all goes as planned! I have it planned, plotted, and ready to go! It won’t entirely be what I thought it might be when I started it long ago, but I’ll be happy that it gets wrapped up. I won’t go into detail about how it’s going to go, but I’ve been having fun toying with different ideas.

I started this Maniacpedia Project to help me prepare for the next writing project. There are a few central themes Chagrin will follow. I’ll be adding to these Maniacpedia categories as I need to. This is a good feeling to have. I have hope, right now, and I positive outlook. I hope it stays this way. When it’s going right, it feels like lightning in a bottle. I’d like to hold on to it.

retro notebooks:

Right now, I’m up to Notebook 45. Around the time I was writing Thermite, I started with Notebook 1. This was more than ten years ago. When I got to Notebook 9, I “closed” them then started fresh at Notebook 10. Some of these Notebooks are full to the max, and some have a lot of empty spaces. I have notes for how I wanted plots and characters to play out, and a lot were executed to a tee, while other story lines and characters remained in the shadows. I wanted to share my Notebooks for a long time. I’ll be uploaded 1 through 9 since they are closed. As I continue with my next project, I’ll still draw from ideas I had back then. I wouldn’t take too much heed in these things. It’s informal, and it’s meant to draw inspiration to write …
